Founded in 2009 and under direction of Ana Stewart and Isabel Amado, the Galeria de Gávea presents a clipping of the Brazilian contemporary photograph. Around five exhibitions – solo and group – are carried out every year, emphasizing curatorial researches that approach the photographic universe and its visual narratives. While fostering the production of its artists, the gallery seeks a deepening of the relation between photography and the circuit of arts, being also a platform of exchanging and diffusion of ideas with deployments that extend to the participation in fairs, the creation of the Gávea Photography Prize, the accomplishment of lectures, guided visits and publication releases. In 2017 the gallery opens its new building, a house from XIX century, that is was remodelled integrally to shelter a new concept of exhibition space.
